Not Mine

I fell in love with a boy who didn’t love me back.
I could hear his heart pound every time she walked past.
I watched and waited for him to admit his love for her.
But he would deny it with his last dying breath.
I saw his leg shake when she was near, fidgeting and stumbling over her words.
It broke my heart to watch them interact, knowing I could never have him the way she did.
Their bond grew like a brick wall that no one could break through.
Shared jackets, friendship bracelets, and shy smiles over her pinned text.

Neither of them knew the feelings were mutual.
They were meant for one another, if not in this life, in another.
Their feelings for one another were undeniable.

For he looked at her like she was the most beautiful girl in the world.
And in that moment, I knew he’d never look at me that way.
